Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf, with its towering buildings, is the most dramatic and recognisable addition to London's skyline in recent years. This huge development has already become a booming business area with international companies, financial institutions and media groups taking up residence alongside malls, shops, bars, restaurants, health and sports clubs, cinemas, theatres and hotels. It's a buzzing and thoroughly contemporary district that has plenty of greens, gardens, landscaped parks, promenades, squares and free open-air musical performances to ensure an agreeable environment for working, shopping and socialising.
Equal care has been lavished on the design of the buildings, including Britain's tallest, One Canada Square. Together with HSBC Tower and Citigroup Centre, One Canada Square is the centrepiece of a glittering group of skyscrapers visible from many parts of the capital.

Luxury 4 star conference and leisure hotels in Canary Wharf are numerous and the area is the perfect base for easy access to The O2 Arena, ExCel London conference and exhibition centre and London City Airport.

Parks and open spaces in Canary Wharf like Canada Square Park boost the appeal of Canary Wharf. Canada Square Park has a big screen erected in summer screening big sporting events including Wimbledon and Ascot as well as popular events like the Proms. The Window Galleries in Canada Place shopping mall displays work by up and coming artists and designers.

Docklands

Docklands is one of the most exciting new Tourist Attractions in London. It’s vibrant, diverse and culturally interesting area and also the fastest growing destination in London. A wealth of beautiful historic warehouses, old riverside pubs and impressive new developments enchant the wandering visitor.

Limehouse Basin where the Regent's Canal pushes down to meet the Thames is a real East London hub for fine gastro pubs, including Gordon Ramsay's The Narrow Pub, and is today a popular London marina and gateway into London by boat. The Isle of Dogs extends south from the Canary Wharf development with a large park at Mudchute that contains a City Farm. At Island Gardens there are noteworthy views across the river to Greenwich.

Mile End

Mile End is a distinct area within the Borough of Tower Hamlets in London’s East End, with Bow to its eastern side and beyond that the site of the 2012 Olympics, in whose halo it certainly sits. Exploring the East End can be a great way to get off of the main tourist track, while staying in walking distance of the historic centre of London.

Mile End is an increasingly affluent neighbourhood about one mile (hence the name) from the City of London. It has a charm of its own, is rich in history and contains some very interesting relics of London's industrial past. During a Sunday morning relaxed walk you can visit the four main markets; Petticoat Lane, Spitalfields, Brick Lane and Columbia Road Flower Market, have lunch and a drink or two, whilst taking in the ever-changing diversity.

Docklands and Canary Wharf Travel Information

The Jubilee line extension to Canary Wharf links docklands with the main tube network. With the development of the Docklands Light Rail (DLR) and the extension of the Jubilee Underground line, transportation around here is easy and efficient. If visiting Docklands, you might like to arrive by DLR to experience the views from the train on approach and leave by the Jubilee to see the impressively large station, which has been compared to a cathedral.

The Jubilee line quickly connects Stratford in the East to West London, picking up both the O2 Arena in Greenwich and Canary Wharf along the way. Getting to Docklands riverside hotspots like Wapping and the Limehouse Basin as well as Canary Wharf is made easy by the DLR. It offers direct links between Canary Wharf, London City Airport and the ExCel London exhibition centre.

Canary Wharf's DLR station and Underground Station are both in Zone 2.

Up to 30 London buses an hour run from Canary Wharf during peak times as well as the handy N50 night bus service. Thames Clippers also offer frequent boat trips to Canary Wharf Pier from central London piers.

The Greenwich foot tunnel over-looked by most, apart from the locals links the beauty & tranquility of Greenwich to the south of the Isle Dogs.

Mile End Travel Information

Mile End is one of the best-connected stations in London, with access to the Central, Hammersmith and City, and District Lines. It is claimed that Mile End is the only station on the Underground system which can be reached by every other, with only one change. There is also a District Line station at Bow Road and Docklands Light Railway stations at Bow Road and Devons Road.

Nearest stations on the London Underground are; Mile End (Hammersmith and City, District and Central lines) and Stepney Green (Hammersmith and City and District lines). London Overground's East London Line connects various stations in the inner East End before crossing the river to Rotherhithe, Canada Water and beyond.
